About Me
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves,
like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

On my first morning of grade one our teacher, Miss Roberts, welcomed us to her class. After she took attendance my first lesson began immediately. “Please put up your hands if you know the alphabet”, she instructed. Eager arms shot up and hands poked out of new shirt sleeves and blouses, but mine was not one of them. “Alphabet…” I wondered? What is an alphabet? Later I learned that my mother had had an acquaintance who was a teacher that discouraged her from teaching me the alphabet because it would spoil the school teacher’s methods. So there I was – already behind on my first day!
Mysteriously, by the third grade I was one of the top spellers in my class… At age eleven I wrote my first short story, followed in Junior High with a radio play, which I audio recorded, complete with a classical music soundtrack. And earning an A in typing, I was glad that the alphabet was now in my command… and surprised when the teacher invited me to join the Drama Club. Not mine, but one of the other English teachers asked me to share my poetry out of interest, to offer gentle support and to recommend a reading list. In High School, finding inspiration in small everyday things, I was asked to contribute some poetry to the Yearbook.
When I graduated, I’d wanted to take my English/Literature teacher’s advice to attend university right away and study creative writing, but instead I took my first job in the hopes that I would earn the resources for tuition, and some life experience about which to write. It took a while, but I finally completed my undergraduate degree as a mature student with a double major, one of which was English, with a Creative Writing Concentration.
Yes I’d been a late bloomer, but I’ve also had a fulfilling career in the business world that’s given me ample opportunity to gain life experience and to write professionally, honing my skills. Now, I am at your service and it would be an honour to be part of your team in making your future dreams and ambitions come true. Let me help you spread the word!
My energy and joie de vivre come from personal activities that inspire and rejuvenate me. They are spending time with family and good friends, running, walking, yoga, kayaking, reading, music, meditation, photography, learning a new language, and travel.
